If you really want to understand my perspective on life, I think you need to read What to do in a failing civilization by David M. Delaney, but, in short, the "Apocalypse" is happening right now. Yes, right now. You were expecting a magical angel-blown trumpet to sound? You were expecting to wake up to everything in flames and orcs running amok? There may be some violence and chaos, but mostly the apocalypse is going to be increasingly dreary and boring. Here's some more. Here's a nice book.
